Excitable London: Street map analysis with Oregonator model
نویسندگان
چکیده
We explore geometry of London’s streets using computational mode of an excitable chemical system, Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) medium. We virtually fill in the streets with a BZ medium and study propagation of excitation waves for a range of excitability parameters, gradual transition from excitable to subexcitable to non-excitable. We demonstrate a pruning strategy adopted by the medium with decreasing excitability when wider and ballistically appropriate streets are selected. We explain mechanics of streets selection and pruning. The results of the paper will be used in future studies of studying dynamics of cities with living excitable substrates.

Simulation of Amplitude Behaviour in the Ag Perturbed Excitable Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction by the Oregonator Model
Potentiometrie measurements with platinum and silver electrodes of Ag induced oscillations in the oxygen-inhibited excitable Belousov-Zhabotinsky system are reported. Calculations based on the Oregonator model lead to the conclusion that the platinum electrode's potential is composed of two contributions, the Ce(III)/Ce(IV) redox couple which dominates at low Ag flow rates and the contribution ...
متن کاملFredkin and Toffoli gates implemented in Oregonator model of Belousov-Zhabotinsky medium
A thin-layer Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) medium is a powerful computing device capable for implementing logical circuits, memory, image processors, robot controllers, and neuromorphic architectures. We design the reversible logical gates — Fredkin gate and Toffoli gate — in a BZ medium network of excitable channels with sub-excitable junctions. Local control of the BZ medium excitability is an im...
متن کاملUnidirectional mechanism for reentrant activity generation in excitable media.
A closed excitable pathway with one point-to-point connection is used to generate a rotating wave both in experiments using the photosensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky system and numerically with an Oregonator reaction-diffusion model. By varying the excitability and geometrical properties of the medium, propagation can be made unidirectional or bidirectional, giving rise, respectively, to the exis...
متن کاملStochastic Simulations of Pattern Formation in Excitable Media
We present a method for mesoscopic, dynamic Monte Carlo simulations of pattern formation in excitable reaction-diffusion systems. Using a two-level parallelization approach, our simulations cover the whole range of the parameter space, from the noise-dominated low-particle number regime to the quasi-deterministic high-particle number limit. Three qualitatively different case studies are perform...
متن کاملA numerical study of the decomposition of chemical waves in a closed system
Ž . A photosensitive Oregonator that has three steady states one is stable and the others unstable is investigated in a one-dimensional reaction-diffusion system to study the decomposition of chemical waves in a closed excitable medium. A time-dependent concentration of reactant, a, plays the role of an internal bifurcation parameter. A part of the system is set to be oscillatory to produce a w...
